The former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo state, Jumoke Ajasin-Anifowose, has admonished Nigerian women to participate in the democratic governance system of the country by involving themselves in politics, so as to make for a great future for the country.
Ajasin-Anifowose gave the advice at the weekend while briefing journalists ahead of Tuesday’s seminar being organised for the wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ‘Women for Change’ holding in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
She said if women refused to come out of their shell and compete with their men counterparts for the administration of this country, they might be relegated to the background. The erstwhile Chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state disclosed that the APC Women for Change, under her leadership, was organising the one-day seminar to mobilise women in their large numbers on the need to partake actively in politics.
The Chairman, Planning Committee for the Seminar, Mrs. Erelu Modupe Akindele-Johnson and the Secretary of the women’s group, Mrs. Folakemi Olowolagba-Ogunshile, said the theme of the seminar was “Women Substantive Participation in Politics: The missing link in development.
It will take place at SWAN Hotel, Ilesa Road, Akure, while the lead speaker at the event will be a former lecturer at the University of Lagos, Prof. Sophie Oluwole.
Other discussants at the Seminar are Prof. O. Owoputi, Prof. Yemi Adeparusi and Dr. Keziah Awosika while the occasion will be chaired by the APC National Vice-Chairman (South West), Chief Pius Akinyelure.
