The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Environment and Habitat, Hon. Obinna Chidoka (Anambra-PDP), on Tuesday in Abuja, urged Nigerians to adopt an alternative means of transport in order to reduce the emission of dangerous gases into the atmosphere.
Chidoka made the call during his awareness campaign on the need to protect and preserve the country’s environment.
The lawmaker, who rode on a bicycle to the National Assembly complex to drum support for his campaign, said the call has become necessary in view of the need to reduce the depletion of the environment through gas emissions from means of transportation.
According to him, “when it comes to carbon footprint and ways of measuring it, this is a simple way of saying we can protect and preserve our environment if we look for alternatives”.
He canvassed for the establishment of bicycle routes in major cities across the country, saying that it would serve as a measure to reduce the number of cars and carnage on the roads.
