Ondo landlord jailed for defecating in own premises

A mobile court in Ondo town, Owo West Local Government Area of Ondo State, has sentenced an 83-year-old man, ‎Saliu Oteniya, to nine months in imprisonment for allegedly defecating indiscriminately around his premises thereby causing air pollution.

Also, some landlords numbering about 15 in the same community, were also sentenced to nine months imprisoned for committing various environmental offences.

Prosecutors in charge of the case, Elizabeth Akinfemisoye and Adejoke Olanrewaju, told the court that Oteniya, whose r‎esidential building was situated at No. 23, Lokun Street, had been endangering the health conditions of other residents in the area, which might led to disease outbreak.

The duo also accused fifteen landlords of failing to provide sanitary dustbins and latrine in their places of domicile, since the existing one were filled up and liable to cause disease outbreak in and around the places.

“They failed to renovate the dilapidated their buildings and failed to provide sanitary kitchen and bathrooms in their places of domicile, since the existing one were unsanitary,” the prosecutors said.
