The Provost of College of Education, Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State, Prof. Francisca Aladejana, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint experienced academic as the Minister of Education to bring the needed reform and stability in the sector.

Speaking at a press conference heralding the 22nd convocation ceremony of the College, where 2,438 would be churned out, Aladejana urged Buhari to appoint someone with cognate experience to man the Ministry of Education, saying bringing those without knowledge and workability of the Education sector would further ruin the fortunes of the critical sector.

“President Buhari must bring someone who understands the terrain. Someone who has touch with the pertinent and contemporary issues in the education sector.

“The education standard is falling and the President must bring someone who will come to chart a new course for the future of our education,” she said.

Speaking on her achievement, the Provost said she has been able to improve the infrastructural facilities of the institution and the welfare of staff since she came on board about four years ago.

“When I came, I met a backlog of N196 million outstanding salaries and allowance which I had paid. I sent about 266 workers for national and international conferences to broaden their knowledge and exposure, which is also part of education”.

She said the college can now boast of an e-library that had increased learning and research in the institution, describing this as a feat that had propelled the name of the institution above its peers.

The Provost added that the Quality Assurance section she established had helped in scrutinizing the academic materials being produced by lecturers and stoppage of sales of hand-outs to students.

She however urged President Buhari’s administration to encourage women participation in politics by increasing the number of women that would be appointed into higher positions of authority, saying, “What a man can do, a woman can do better”.
